I created a lightly dented bump map for my coffee machine in 3d coat. I prefer 3d coat in creating texturings as i feel like i have more control of the colours. I have been using ptex for my texturing as it was recommened by mike as it allow the user to paint textures and not be bound by the uv seems or topology. but the downside for using ptex is that the textures are not very hd.

but from a distance i feel that the textures are looking quite nice.

here are my tests.

the bump is too strong here

i feel quite happy with the results of the bump here.
